Kenyan fighting for the Al-Shabaab was executed by the Somali militant group for alleged espionage. The Kenya Defense Forces spokesman, Major Emmanuel Chirchir, confirmed that the non-Somali Kenyan was stoned to death by the militants in Kismayu after he was convicted of aiding Kenyan troops identify their targets in Somalia. "It is a fact that a Kenyan was executed in Kismayu, two more are likely to be executed on January 13 afternoon," Chirchir said. The Kenyan man from Nairobi had been "recruited" by Al-Shabaab and then was stoned to death because he had a different "opinion" from them. Chirchir said the stoning took place in the southern Somali city of Kismayo, a key target of the Kenyan offensive. The militants are said to have rounded up hundreds of Kismayu residents to come and witness the execution.
