Somalia’s martial court sentenced one man to death in a ruling that saw seven members of Al Shabab receive a diverse judgment.
Nine suspects have appeared before the courts where the martial judge dispensed among them death ruling, acquittal and prison terms in military jails.
“The court has sentenced Ahmed Aweys to death, constable Mahat Ahmed has been acquitted in absentia and Abdi Ibrahim Mohmaed has been sentenced to ten years in jail,” Judge Abdirahman Adan read out the ruling.
The lawyer representing the defendants, Hassan Abdille, said he was not in agreement with the ruling and vowed to move to an upper court within the military court.
