SOMALIA: MILITARY COURT EXECUTES BY FIRING SQUAD AL-SHABAAB OPERATIVE IN GALKAYO

Somalia military court on 1 November 2022 executed by firing squad an Al-Shabaab operative in a public square in Galkayo, the capital of the Mudug region.
Jirau Abdullahi Ali was sentenced to death by the armed forces court in 2020 after he was found guilty of committing several assassinations and bombings in the Mudug capital. He was also convicted of killing the controversial Muslim cleric, Sheikh Abdiweli Ali Elmi Yare, in 2018.
Present to witness the execution were senior officers drawn from the military court and authorities from the Galkayo administration.
