The chairman of the first degree military court Col. Hassan Ali Shute said the soldier identified as Mahad Hussein Shidow was sentenced to death penalty after the court found him guilty of deliberately killing a civilian, Yasin Ali saneey who was a rickshaw driver.
“On 20th September the court listened to the prosecution against Mahad Hussein Shidow who was accused of killing a civilian, Yasin Ali Saney, a rickshaw driver. After getting evidences and listening to the witnesses, the court has sentenced him [the soldier] to death penalty” Shute said.
Col. Shute also said another soldier sustained injuries from the bullets fired by the soldier during the murder of the late rickshaw driver.
“The accused was also charged of wounding a soldier, Abdi Dukow Mohamed by the bullets he fired during the incident that happened in Beledweyne district.
The chairman stressed that the defendant can take an appeal if he is not satisfied with verdict of the military court.
