SOMALIA: MILITARY COURT SENTENCES SOLDIER TO DEATH

A military court in Somalia on 23 January 2021 sentenced a soldier to death for killing a civilian.
The court found Osman Ibrahim Abdi guilty of killing a civilian in Baidoa in Southwest state.
The killing took place on 11th of this month, according a statement by the military court.
Chairperson of the military Court in Southwest Adan Abukar Mohamed said Abdi committed the crime deliberately and he killed the civilian.
“On 11th January 2021, Osman Ibrahim Abdi delibrately killed Ahmed Madnur Mursal in Baidoa town. After we received different eyewitness testimonies, the court convicted Osman Ibrahim Abdi,” the judge said in the statement.
The military court condemned Abdi to face the firing squad. The convict can appeal the verdict within 30 days.
