SRI LANKA: DEATH ROW CONVICT ARRESTED AFTER ALMOST 20 YEARS
A 54-year-old man who had been in hiding for almost two decades and was later sentenced to death was arrested on June 14, 2023 in Ragama.

A 54-year-old man who had been in hiding for almost two decades and was later sentenced to death was arrested on June 14, 2023 in Ragama.
The convict and his brother were charged in 2001 with attacking a man with sharp weapons and beating him to death.
Both brothers were in remand custody, and following the 2004 tsunami, they were moved from the Negombo prison to another prison.
While they were being transported, the convict in question broke free and escaped.
The man who remained in remand custody was acquitted and released in 2012, and the escapee was sentenced to death by the court.
The man, who was sentenced to death, had been in hiding and was later arrested on June 14 after almost two decades, and he will be produced in court on June 15.
