SRI LANKA: DEATH SENTENCE FOR KILLING 81 YR OLD MAN

Ignatius Fernandopulle, 51, of Negombo, Sri Lanka, who was indicted by the Attorney General for killing an 81 year old man, was sentenced to death by Puttalam High Court Judge L.T.B. Dehideniya. The Attorney General indicted the accused for murdering the man with a club at Mampuriya, Munganhena, on or about November 26, 2000. Ten witnesses gave evidence against Fernandopulle. According to the evidence, the deceased was a labourer working on land belonging to a relative of Fernandopulle.
