An Indian national guilty of trafficking heroin on 23 October 2019 was sentenced to death by the Negombo High Court. According to the Police, the suspect was found guilty of trafficking, possessing and dealing 1.04 kg of heroin. The Indian was arrested by the Police Narcotic Bureau upon arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in September of 2016.
