Two brothers who were indicted for murder were sentenced to death in Sri lanka by the Tangalle High Court Judge Chandrasena Rajapakse.
The convicts were Hettiarachchige Nimal alias Dingi Aiyya and Hettiarachchige Rohana alias Bala Mahaththaya.
The accused faced trial for assaulting Chandana Priyantha Jayawickrama of Middeniya with poles and stabbing him to death on December 01, 1998.
At the hearing it surfaced that on an occasion when the murder victim was riding with his wife on a bicycle the two brothers had waylaid them and committed the crime. It was revealed that a rivalry between the victim’s father and the convicts had led to this crime.
