SRI LANKA: WOMAN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR POSSESSING AND TRAFFICKING HEROIN
Colombo High Court Judge R.S.S. Sapuwidha on September 4, 2025 sentenced a 52-year-old married woman to death after finding her guilty of possessing and trafficking 41.65 grams of heroin.

Colombo High Court Judge R.S.S. Sapuwidha on September 4, 2025 sentenced a 52-year-old married woman to death after finding her guilty of possessing and trafficking 41.65 grams of heroin.
The convict, identified as Dona Gammanpila, was sentenced after the judge ruled that the charges filed against her by the Attorney General had been proven beyond reasonable doubt.
She had been arrested by the Colombo Organised Crimes Division during a raid at Khettarama, in Maligawatte, on February 27, 2019.
Sub-Inspector A. B. K. Subhashana, Sergeant B. M. P. Sanjeewa (60728), and Constable K. M. C. Thilina (34761), among others involved in the raid, gave evidence for the prosecution. State Counsel Dhammika Udawatta appeared on behalf of the Attorney General.
