State television reported that twelve drug traffickers were sentenced to death. The traffickers were arrested in a recent police raid in the capital Tehran. The arrests occurred during a the intensification of Iran's crackdown on drugs. It has stationed thousands of troops along its border with Afghanistan, and armed villagers to fight traffickers.
