Supreme Court chairman, Kayrat Mami, said in an interview with the Kazakh newspaper MN Novosti Nedeli that it was too early to abolish capital punishment. "Social polls show that most of Kazakh citizens are against abolishing capital punishment. I think that it is premature to make this step. The abolishing of capital punishment cannot improve the crime situation in the country. A comprehensive approach should be taken to this issue in order to resolve it. This is a serious task for lawyers and crime experts" he added.
