Syed Ali Asghar Shah, a convict in a murder case was hung at Gujrat District Jail. The deceased had killed Ahmad Khan at Kharian ten years previously. The death sentence imposed on him by the District Session Judge was upheld by Lahore High Court and Supreme Court. The hanging of the accused had been due on March 21, 2000 but the court gave him time to patch up with the victim's family. Ali Asghar was reciting the holy verses of Quran throughout the night before he was hanged.
