Terry Melvin Sims, 58, white, was put to death by lethal injection. He was pronounced dead at 07:10. He was accuses of killing George Pfiel, a white policeman of 55, on 19th December 1977. Sim's was the first death sentence in Florida to be executed by lethal injection as opposed to the electric chair. He was the first person to be executed in the State during the year, the 45th since the State resumed executions in 1979. He was the 15th to be executed in the U.S. during the year and No 613 since the death penalty was re-introduced in 1976.
