the Allahabad high court, in India, confirmed the death sentence to Salim and Sabnam, accused of murdering seven persons in April 2008 in connection with a love affair in Hasanpur of Moradabad district.
This judgment was delivered by a division bench comprising Justice Amar Saran and Justice SC Agrawal dismissing the appeals of Salim and Sabnam and accepting the reference of the sessions court awarding death sentence to the accused by the judgment dated July 15, 2010.
It may be recalled that an FIR was lodged by Sabir Ali alleging that he found Sabnam lying in an unconscious condition while dead bodies of seven persons were lying in the house including women and children who were brutally murdered.
After investigation, the police had submitted the charge sheet and inferred that the accused Salim and Sabnam had executed the murders. On Salim's statement, a blood-stained shirt and axe were also recovered.
After their arrest, both the accused had reportedly confessed their guilt and after going through the entire evidence, the session court had convicted both the accused and awarded them death sentence.
