The Bangkok Southern Criminal Court sentenced a convicted Thai drug trader to death and two Burmese to life imprisonment for possessing almost two million amphetamine tablets with intent to sell.
Amporn Butklin, 33, a resident of Trat, was sentenced to death. Wiset Kaewsombat, 30, and Sumol Puangthong, 18, the two Burmese, were sentenced to life imprisonment.
The three confessed to the charges. The Court ruled that Amporn's confession did not facilitate the trial since he confessed because of solid evidence implicating him. The Court handed down the ultimate penalty against Amporn and less severe penalties to the Burmese because Amporn was found to be the mastermind of the operation.
