The Committee quoted the OSCE’s Report “The Death Penalty in the OSCE Area, Background Paper 2012”. Myalik, who was sentenced by the Mogilev Oblast Court on 14 September 2010, was executed during the reporting period from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012.
“It is assumed that his execution took place sometime in January 2012,” the OSCE said. Myalik, who was aged 41 at the time of sentencing, had been convicted of the murder of four individuals, committed during an armed robbery as part of a gang. The conviction and sentence were upheld by the Supreme Court on 11 February 2011.
Brest-based human right defender Roman Kisliak, who campaigns against the death penalty, told Forum 18 on 8 May 2012 that he did not think Myalik was still alive. All Myalik’s correspondence with his family correspondence stopped in January 2012. According to statistics provided by the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Belarus to the OSCE, five individuals were executed during the reporting period.
Dates of execution were not supplied in the response and were unknown at the time of writing.
According to Tut.By, a Minsk-based news website in Belarusian and Russian languages, the Supreme Court of Belarus did not comment on the execution of the death sentence of Igor Mialik. "The information about the execution of the death sentence of Mialik ... is the responsibility of the of the Ministry of Internal Affairs," Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court Valery Kalinkovich said in its official response to Tut.By in March 2012.
