The Chechen command disseminated official data on losses of the Chechen and Russian sides during fighting since the beginning of the Russian aggression. According to the data, from September 1999, when the bombings of Chechen villages started, till 5th March 2000, about 20,000 civilians of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria were killed. Over 14,000 citizens were killed during the attack on Dzhokhar [Groznyy]. Approximately 1,500 citizens were executed by shooting after the Chechen capital had been captured.
