The Constitution approved in 1992 abolished the death penalty. Art. 22 states: "1. The State shall respect and protect the life of the human person. 2. The death penalty is prohibited."
On December 17, 2018, Angola co-sponsored and voted again in favour of the Resolution on a Moratorium on the Use of the Death Penalty at the UN General Assembly.
