The Constitution approved in 1992 abolished the death penalty. Art. 22 states: "1. The State shall respect and protect the life of the human person. 2. The death penalty is prohibited."
Angola co sponsored the resolution on the death  penalty approved by the UN Commission on Human Rights on April 20, 2005.
