The Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia at Art. 10 states: "Human life is inviolable. The death penalty may not be imposed in the Republic of Macedonia."
According to official figures in Macedonia 67 per cent of the population is Macedonian and 23 per cent is made up of ethnic Albanians. However, ethnic Albanian leaders claim that their population is larger.
