The Constitution of the Republic of Namibia (1990) at Art. 6 states: "The right to life shall be respected and protected. No law may prescribe death as a competent sentence. No Court or Tribunal shall have the power to impose a sentence of death upon any person. No execution shall take place in Namibia." The last execution was carried out in 1988. On December 18, 2014, Namibia abstained as in 2012 on the Resolution on a Moratorium on the Use of the Death Penalty at the UN General Assembly. In 2010, 2008 and 2007 it voted in favor.
