The Criminal Court sentenced to death Somsak Sinkhao, Thawil Srilimpanon, Worachet Yakhet, Pitak Pisailert, and Pathomchai Walee-anurak. They were arrested with 102,000 speed pills in a police sting at a petrol station on the Chiang Mai-Fang Road on September 18, 1999. Somsak confessed to the crime, but the others pleaded innocent. The court said that the prosecution had compelling evidence against all defendants while the defence failed to provide convincing evidence. The court ruled that the defendant who confessed should be executed because his crime threatened the public's welfare and the others should be executed because they lacked remorse.
