the daily Times of Zambia reported that a parliamentarian asked the Justice Minister, Gorge Kunda, to ask President Levy Mwanawasa not to sign any execution orders because the death penalty is still in the law. The minister replied that capital punishment is ‘very controversial’, the reason that it is in the mandate of the Commission for Constitutional Revision (CRC). However, the death penalty is maintained because the majority of people who gave evidence at the CRC asked for it to be kept.
