the Dominican Human Rights Commission (CDDH) said that some elements of the National Police summarily executed suspected criminals.
"For the commission, the extra-legal executions that are being carried out in this institution under the command of Gen. Manuel Perez Sanchez are unacceptable," CDDH president Manuel Maria Mercedes said.
"These executions violate the Dominican Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the international treaties to which the country is a signatory," Mercedes said.
Mercedes said extra-legal executions were being carried out in Santo Domingo and other jurisdictions in the Dominican Republic.
National Police spokesman Simon Diaz, meanwhile, said the law-enforcement agency was willing to investigate all allegations about its officers and to punish violators.
In the past weeks, Dominican police officers had killed several individuals in what authorities labeled "exchanges of gunfire."
