The European [Human Rights] Court has requested that the handover of Chechen fighters to Russia be suspended and that Georgia provide an explanation. The Strasbourg court wants to examine the papers relating to the identification of all the accused and the documentation on the basis of which Tbilisi took the decision to extradite the Chechens. The European Court has cause to believe that the rights of the Chechens will be violated in Russia and they may face capital punishment.
