The European Parliament drew attention to the human rights situation in Tibet by adopting a resolution calling on the Chinese Government to pursue the dialogue with the representatives of the Dalai Lama and urging the EU to link its financial aid to China to progress made in the human rights situation of the Tibetans. In the resolution the EP expressed concern at the death sentence imposed on Tenzin Delek and his assistant Lobsang Dhondup, accused of incitement to separatism and possession of illegal weapons and munitions, whereas no proof of their guilt was provided. Noting that these were the first cases, "for years, of the sentencing to death of Tibetans" for alleged political crimes, Parliament called on the Chinese Government to "immediately commute" these death sentences and decide on an immediate review of the cases.
