The European Union filed a diplomatic protest in the form of a "demarche" before the Department of Foreign Affairs in a bid to stop the scheduled 14 executions due in the Philippines in the month of February.
A troika of EU envoys composed of Dutch Ambassador and EU head Robert Vornis, European Commission head of delegation Ambassador Jan de Kok and United Kingdom Ambassador Paul Dimond filed the protest.
"We in the European Union have always been staunch proponents of the abolition of the death penalty. This abolition should be a matter of policy for the Philippines, not politics," De Kok said.
