the ex-director of the Chinese State Administration of Food and Medicine, Zheng Xiaoyu, 62, who was sentenced to death last May for taking bribes worth a total of 6.4 million yuan (approximately 620,000 euros) from a pharmaceutical company, was executed. The ex-minister was fired in June 2005 after eight years as the chief of the Administration of Food and Medicine, where he ran the system that authorised a number of particularly controversial medicines.
