The HCMC People's Court sentenced Tran Thi Hieu, 65, former director of Ngoc Thao Co., to death for graft. In the first-instance hearing of the country's second biggest case of misappropriating State property life sentences were given to Tran Van Phuoc, 52, former general director of Nam Do Bank, Ha Ngoc Thach, 53, former vice chairman, and Phung Duc, 53, former deputy general director. The prosecution had sought the death penalty for Phuoc and Thach.
