The head of a failed Chinese kindergarten was executed after being convicted of poisoning 70 children at a rival school, the official Xinhua news agency said. Huang Hu, 29, was executed on January 3 in Zhanjiang city in China's southern Guangdong province. He was arrested in November 2002 after a police investigation into a massive food poisoning at a kindergarten near Wuchuan city in Guangdong. Xinhua said Huang had opened his own business in Wuchuan in early October, but enjoyed little success and became jealous of the apparent popularity of his rival. To vent his anger, he sneaked into the kitchen of the kindergarten on the evening of November 24 and laced the kitchen salt with rat poison, according to the agency. The next morning the salt was put into porridge, causing two teachers and 70 children to fall ill after eating the porridge. The victims were admitted to hospital and all of them recovered. Investigators discovered the poison used was "Dushuqiang," a highly toxic rat poison that is banned but can still be found in some markets. Huang was sentenced to death on December 17.
