The high court in Tanzania 's northern town of Moshi ordered the government to award 300 million Tanzanian shillings ( 337,078 U.S. dollars) to the family of a former intelligence officer mistakenly killed by the police.
Lieutenant General Imran Kombe was gunned down by two policemen on June 30, 1996 at Maili Sita in Hai region in northern Tanzania after he was mistaken for a notorious car thief who had allegedly stolen a Nissan Patrol jeep.
After the killing, the two policemen, Corporal Juma Mswa and Mataba Matiku were convicted for murder and sentenced to death. But their execution has not been carried out yet.
