The International Tribunal for Crimes in the former Yugoslavia indicted former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic for genocide.
This follows his indictment for crimes against humanity relating to the war in Croatia in 1992-1993 and in Kosovo in 1999.
The indictment for genocide relates to the 1992-1995 Balkan war and is the most serious accusation against Milosevic yet. ICTY judges held that evidence regarding the atrocities committed by Serb forces during the war, compiled by Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte's office, contained sufficient proof to bring the case to court.
The former Yugoslav president is also held responsible for the deportation of 250,000 people.
