The Nagoya District Court sentenced one of three defendants to death for killing four men over a period of eleven days in 1994 in the Gifu, Aichi and Osaka prefectures. The names of the man sentenced to death and his co-defendants were withheld in accordance with the Juvenile Law because they were minors at the time they committed the crime. Given the death sentence was a 26-year-old man from Inazawa, Aichi Prefecture, who was 19 at the time of the killings. Public prosecutors had sought the death penalty for all three defendants, saying they committed the crimes with a definite intent to kill and that there was no hope for rehabilitation.
