The North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers called for a halt to executions until questions about the fairness of capital punishment could be resolved. The academy released a poll that found only 2 in 5 North Carolina voters are confident that the death penalty is applied fairly. The poll found that 59% favoured a moratorium on executions until issues concerning fairness could be studied.
