The North Ossetia parliament expressed support for a statement issued by the Dagestani State Council that calls for lifting the moratorium on the death penalty in Russia.
North Ossetian parliamentarians believe it is necessary to lift the moratorium on the death penalty "specifically in relation to the organizers and direct perpetrators of terrorist attacks," the North Ossetian parliament press service said. North Ossetia has recently seen a series of terrorist attacks that killed dozens of residents in the North Caucasian republic.
The statement was signed by North Ossetian parliament members and forwarded to Russia's president, the chairmen of the Federation Council and the State Duma. The Dagestani State Council spoke in favor of lifting the moratorium on the death penalty after the May 9 terrorist attack in the town of Kaspiisk, which killed 42 people.
