the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals upheld the murder conviction of Isidro Marquez-Burrola, a Mexican national accused of killing his wife, but judges modified the man's death sentence to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
A Grady County jury found Marquez-Burrola guilty on feb. 8, 2003 (see) of slashing the throat of his estranged wife, Enriqueta Marquez.
The judges concluded that Marquez-Burrola's trial lawyers failed to investigate, develop and present an acceptable case during the sentencing phase of his trial and therefore prejudiced their client.
