The one-time deputy general manager of a company under the oil deposit management bureau in northwestern Shaanxi Province was sentenced to death for massive embezzlement.
Zheng Daping was convicted of misappropriating 3.24 million yuan (390,000 U.S. dollars) in the positions he held in the past.
Known as Yan'an's No.1 Corrupt Official, Zheng was sentenced by the Yan'an City Intermediate People's Court in the province.
The 43-year-old embezzler started taking public money when he was manager of a labour service company under the oil deposit management bureau. He bribed company accountants to make out fraudulent receipts worth more than 2 million yuan (241,000 U.S. dollars) which he used.
When his company was merged with another firm under the same bureau in November 2000, he was appointed deputy general manager and director for transportation department. He forged temporary wage bills and project budgets to access more company money.
The court sentenced his accomplices Wang Hailian, Zhao Lanzhen, Shi Jianxiong and Zhang Youqiang from to two to five years in prison.
