THE PHILIPPINES. 4 OFWS AWAITING EXECUTION IN SAUDI ARABIA AND MALAYSIA

Philippines Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers, Esteban Conejos, said that 4 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) were awaiting execution abroad. Three of the condemned were women convicted for murdering their employers in Saudi Arabia and the fourth was a man convicted for drug trafficking in Sabah, Malaysia. The sentences of the four OFWs, whom Conejos declined to identify, had become final.
"They have already been sentenced to death and proceedings are over so they are our priority right now," Conejos said. "We are looking into all legal avenues to either commute their sentence or exonerate them. We are doing our best." Conejos said one of the women had been in jail for the past nine and a half years as embassy officials continued to make representations on her behalf.
