THE PHILIPPINES. ARROYO COMMUTES SENTENCE OF 79 CONVICTS

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has commuted to life imprisonment the death sentence of 79 convicts, Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita said in a briefing. He said Mrs. Arroyo signed the order on May 4, two days before she left for Saudi Arabia on a state visit.
