the Punjab And Haryana High Court in Chandigarh, India, admitted a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation seeking the death sentence for Abdul Latif Adam Momin who was convicted for his role in hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 to Kandahar in 1999. In an application filed for enhancement of his sentence from the life sentence handed out by a trial court in Patiala on February 5, the investigating agency equated the case with the attack on the Parliament to say there was no other case of the same magnitude. The CBI contended the case falls in the category of "rarest of rare cases". The petition was admitted by a division Bench comprising Justice K S Garewal and Justice Jitendra Chauhan.
