the Punjab and Haryana High Court, India, set aside the death sentence awarded to Harbans Kaur, an 82 year-old woman of the Moga district in Punjab, convicted on April 4 of killing her daughter-in-law by pouring kerosene oil on her.
The court ruled that it did not appear to be plausible for such an old woman to have burnt her daughter-in-law to death and that the incident, which took place on March 4, 2005, was more probably a case of suicide.
