The Saudi opposition Movement for Islamic Reform in Arabia (MIRA) said the British, Canadian and Belgian nationals being held in a Saudi jail will not face the death penalty. "We would like to reassure their relatives that the shari'ah penalty will not be carried out against them, no matter what," MIRA said is a statement. "We have precedence in the case of the two [British] nurses and the case of the prince who killed Idah al-Ghamidi as evidence that Al Sa'ud family members and Westerners are not killed."
MIRA said Interior Minister Prince Nayif wanted to implicate foreigners in the bombings to "deny the existence of any forces in the country that can embarrass the regime.
