The state-owned newspaper, Kayhan, reported that five prisoners had been hanged in two cities in Iran. Three prisoners, identified as Kazem Ahmadi, Reza Hamrahi and Mahmoud Gozali-Reihani, were hanged in public outside the governor's office in the town of Ahar in East Azerbaijan Province. They had been charged with "waging war on God, corrupting the Earth and causing terror and fear." Two other prisoners were reported to have been hanged in the city of Semnan.
