The Supreme court stayed the execution of the only woman on death row in Tihar Jail.
Shakila was condemned to death for setting ablaze a two-year-old child after using the sleeping baby for "black magic" in Sultanpuri in 1987. Five others were also condemned to death for the murder.
However the Supreme Court said the prosecution's case against Shakila did not inspire confidence, and admitted her appeal for hearing.
Shakila sacrificed the child belonging to her neighbour as she was told by a priest that her childless daughter would conceive only after killing a female child.
