The Swedish and French ambassadors to the United States and Gunter Burhoudt, the European Commission's representative in Washington, asked Virginia Governor James Gilmore for a stay of execution for Derek Rocco Barnabei. In a letter addressed to the Governor, the EU representatives asked "for Mr. Barnabei's sentence to be commuted" due to "many and serious doubts" surrounding the case.
