The Syrian journalist Faysal Sha'bu, who was residing in Jordan illegally and seeking political asylum, said he faced the death penalty if he decided to return to Syria. The Jordanian authorities gave him one week to obtain political asylum in any country that would accept him. Jordan said that he would be extradited to Syria at the end of that period.
