the Tennessee Supreme Court has reinstated a death sentence against a man convicted of ordering a Memphis gang to kill an innocent bystander. Gregory Robinson was convicted in 1998 of premeditated 1st-degree murder and especially aggravated kidnapping in the 1997 death of Vernon Green. A lower court reversed the conviction and sentence, but the state Supreme Court ruled today that Robinson's arguments of inconsistent proof at trial and improper evidence were not valid. Green was killed after an argument between 2 rival gangs even though he was not a gang member.
