The Tokyo High Court upheld a lower court ruling condemning Shinichi Shimoyama to death for his 1993 crime orgy in which he killed and robbed three people across Japan.
"Your crimes and their methods were cruel, evil, coldly emotionless and inappropriately bold," presiding Judge Sukeaki Tatsuoka said as he confirmed Shimoyama should hang.
Shimoyama and a male Malaysian accomplice started their crime spree in October 1993 when they killed a financier in Shiga Prefecture. Two months later, the pair attacked a Tokyo financier, leaving him critically injured. Days after that attack, they struck a video game parlour owner in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, stabbing him to death and stealing 15 million yen in cash.
