The Virginia Supreme Court threw out the conviction and death sentence of Jeffrey Alan Thomas, convicted of the attempted rape and murder of a teen-age girl, Tara Rose Munsey on Jan. 25, 2000. The justices unanimously agreed that Thomas deserves a new trial because the trial judge (Circuit Judge Colin Gibb) erred when he refused to move the trial due to extensive news coverage in Virginia.
